His smirk quickly disappeared at her reply, eyes going wide for a moment as he glanced back at her. “T-tentacles?,“ he stammered, blinking a few times. It didn’t take him too long to figure that she hadn’t been serious and damn, he’d damn near considered just flinging himself off the next cliff of bridge instead of dealing with.. tentacle monsters. "…oh. Oh that uh.. that was a joke, huh?” Oh boy. God, he was quick to feel stupid. He mentally kicked himself, gaze shifting towards the ground again.

One would think that he’d grown more direct confidence after all those years, but it still took him some time to warm up to people. At least he wasn’t constantly stammering towards Ellie anymore. That was already a good step. Yeah, sometimes he was really glad that he was a damn decent soldier, otherwise he’d probably not gotten far in his life. No parents, no extraordinary education or anything, he didn’t even have a home.

He quickly looked back at her for a moment as she answered. Somewhere safe, that was good enough for him. He just needed a short break, maybe to sit down for a few minutes. Honestly, he was somewhat surprised he hadn’t already passed out, though he guessed he’d seen enough already to withstand a few.. non-zombie zombies. Infected. Things. Right… “…sure, okay. Good.”

Noticing his eyes go wide, Ellie let out a soft snort, amused by how he reacted. “Man, i’m jus’ fuckin’ with ya’.” She laughed lightly when he finally realized it was just a joke. This guy needed to sit down and relax; Ellie hadn’t come across someone like him for a long time. “You are one weird soldier,” She commented briefly, glancing over at him. From what she had experienced in the past, most soldiers and guards weren’t like this; not that she really knew any on a personal level, anyway.

Finally, the powerplant began to come into veiw; the watch towers becoming visible over the lush trees. Green eyes briefly glanced over at the blonde, knowing that he’d be Tommy’s problem in a minute or two. Dragging the deer carcass through the clearing of trees, it only took a few more moments before the clicking of rifles could be heard.

“He’s with me!” Ellie called out, catching her breath as she began to slow the pace. “Claims t'be some sorta’ soldier. He’s armed.” The woman added, finally stopping outside the gates, waiting for them to open it. The trip she had been on was definitely not what she had been expecting. However, she got back in one piece, at least.

A half smile tugged at her lips as the male thanked her once more. Alright, maybe this wasn’t as bad as she thought....

He might not have been completely ‘through’ with this whole thing, but he did feel somewhat relieved that she’d try to...
