Weird, hm? My, he did love to be called weird. He’d always thought it to be close enough to a compliment, seeing as weird always resembled something good or fun for him. Everybody could have average, he highly preferred to be ‘weird’. And seeing that many soldiers usually used the stick up their ass as a backup weapon, he was damn glad not to be just like them. “I’ve been told~,“ he replied, grinning to himself.

‘Somewhere safe’ was a bit of an understatement. As he saw the gates and the towers not too far from them, his eyebrows raised in surprise, gaze shifting over to look at Ellie for a moment. He’d almost bothered to come up with some witty comment, but that would a) have taken him too long to figure and b) probably not been even remotely as amusing as he’d think it.

The clicking of guns quickly caught his attention and his hand instinctively went to his holster, eyes scanning the towers for the noises’ source. As Ellie spoke up, his head didn’t turn to look at her, he was too busy making sure he’d not get shot by an enemy he was having enough trouble spotting. His vision was playing him as it is, he was surprised he’d gotten a clear shot earlier. "…charming friends you have..,” he quietly commented, standing next to her as they waited for the gate to move.

Huh, charming was one way to put it. To Ellie, those who lived in the powerplant were considered family more than anything. However, no one took things lightly when a stranger appeared at the gates. Steven should have been considered lucky having Ellie there with him. At least with her he would not be shot down straight away.

Finally, the gates began to slide open a little; just enough for Maria and two of the other watch tower guards to slide through. With their rifles aimed at Steven, Ellie let go of the rope attached to the deer before taking a step towards Maria. “He helped me kill dinner. Took out a few Runners we bumped into as well.” Ellie began, her eyes on the female who simply watched Steven.

Ellie would try and get him inside. It was only fair, of course. The young woman knew not mention his lack of knowledge, however; it would only make it less likely for him to get inside. “I’ll make sure he’s outta’ ‘ere by tonight. He only needs t'rest up a little.” Keeping her eyes on Maria, she watched as the blonde nodded once at the guards. She turned back to Ellie, taking a small step closer to her, keeping her voice low. “I’ll let Tommy know. But ya’ make sure ya’ get him goin’ by tonight, otherwise you know what we’ll do." She warned, Ellie replying with a simple nod. "Got it.” She stated, before she moved away, picking up the rope that was tied to the deer and handing it to the guards.

When the guards moved out of the way, Ellie placed one of her hands onto her backpack strap, gripping hold of it tightly. “C'mon.” She turned her head to Steven, signaling to follow her with a wave of her hand as she made her way through the gates.

A half smile tugged at her lips as the male thanked her once more. Alright, maybe this wasn’t as bad as she thought....

He might not have been completely ‘through’ with this whole thing, but he did feel somewhat relieved that she’d try to...
