survive

Reed was taken aback when he noticed that the intruder was an older woman. Instead of deciding on hand to hand combat, he searched the floor for his gun and quickly obtained it, slender fingers locking around the cold trigger.

“Chickenshit?” Reed stifled a dry laugh, “Is that the best you could do lady?“

He could sense hesitation when they came face to face. He didn’t want her to take pity on him. If so, she would be just like any other survivor he came across. You see someone who had to grow up too fast and, immediately, you have a heart. Reed’s ashy eyes narrowed, he hated the fact that so many people undermined him.

She didn’t reach for the pistol which he could see was conveniently strapped to her waist, and, instead, brought her hand up in front of herself. Reed took that as a sign of surrender and slowly brought his gun down.

"Maybe you should make it a habit to look better," Reed said coldly, placing his gun back into its holster on his belt.He was definitely not harboring any sympathetic feelings for her, “Now leave, before I change my mind.”

Ellie lowered her hand when the male spoke, green eyes narrowing slightly in his direction. “Did I fuckin’ stutter?” Great, maybe this wouldn’t be such an easy getaway as she had previously thought.

As he brought his gun down at her look of surrender, Ellie curled one of her hands into a small fist; fingernails digging into her palm. His attitude reminded her of some of the boys that she had to grow up alongside with before being taken to the military school in Boston’s quarantine zone. Back then, those were the sort of boys that caused her to get into trouble.

“An’ maybe you should make a habit t'shut ya’ mouth if ya’ know what’s good for ya’.” She snapped, her previous plans to just leave flying out of the window. Maybe this was an opportunity to take home some supplies after all. “Where should’ve I been lookin’, huh?”
